Every day in every way I am getting better and better and better
Affirmations have been used by mankind in some form or another throughout history and across most cultures. They come in all guises from prayer to war cry, in music and in prose. Many people have changed their lives and realised their dreams through affirmation, reprogramming their minds to believe what they hear themselves saying until it becomes reality.
One of the good things about affirmations is it changes the internal dialogue inside the mind. It focuses the mind on a new goal or direction and through repetition can cancel out any negative, self defeating internal talk that you may have. With a new mindset in place and your focus on a certain goal you will begin to see examples of success in your life as if your goals are coming to life and closer to you. This then adds to and supports your affirmation giving it more and more strength until the affirmation is realised.
Affirmations are simple to do and create. You can write your own and have as many as you like. Many of the top motivation gurus have examples on their web sites and if you typed ‘affirmation’ into a search engine you will be offered many examples.
The trick however, is to keep them very simple, realistic, positive and written as if it is you saying them. Some say they need to be designed grammatically in the present tense rather than the future. The reason being is that the affirmation, ´I will be rich` for example, tells your mind that you will be rich, but in the future, and as tomorrow never comes, neither will your riches.
Keeping them realistic is also important. If you were to say to yourself ‘I am a billionaire’, your mind might not quite buy into it and instead say back to you ‘no, you are not’. Therefore, you might want to swap, ‘I am a billionaire’, for ‘I have all the money I need’. The only trouble with that is, how much money you need, and how much money you want, may be very different indeed.
Affirmations are very personal and individual. They need to be written in your language to suit your character, your circumstances and your goals. One of the most famous affirmations is, ‘every day in every way I get better and better and better’. This is a nice affirmation because it is all encompassing and leads towards success all the time. It is plausible, positive and rolls off the tongue easily. It is a good one to use as a starting point and you can add to it quite easily to suit your own needs.
For example:
Every day, in every way, I am getting better, better and better.
Every day in every way, my confidence grows stronger and stronger.
I feel more confident today than I felt yesterday.
I am more at ease with myself right here right now.
Every day, in every way, I am getting better, better and better.
To increase the effectiveness of the affirmations you can repeat them to yourself in the mirror, looking yourself in the eye, Repeat them passionately and out loud.
Writing them down is another level of repeating your affirmations. Just as they make children do in school, writing your affirmations out repeatedly on paper adds a visual and physical interaction into reprogramming your neurology to accept and remember in habit form the new characteristic you desire.
If you can turn the lyrics of your favourite songs into positive affirmations you can create a supercharged method for reprogramming your mind very similar to chanting and prayer that has been used by mankind since time immemorial. The added benefit of using your favourite songs is they already come supercharged with lots of powerfully anchored emotions you already have attached to the song.
You can also play these songs on your personal stereo while walking along the street, and if they happen to play it in a bar, club or restaurant on a night out, you can use it as a boost your confidence at every moment.
Many sportspeople use emotionally charged songs that inspire them and lift them before a big match or fight and boxers use uplifting music as they enter the ring for a fight. Music is also used to lift the moral of soldiers and put fear into their enemy.
Choose something that is very personal to you and has all the good connections you want to recreate in your life at any moment.
“Man often becomes what he believes himself to be. If I keep on saying to myself that I cannot do a certain thing, it is possible that I may end by really becoming incapable of doing it. On the contrary, if I have the belief that I can do it, I shall surely acquire the capacity to do it even if I may not have it at the beginning.”
